The month of June was chosen for LGBT Pride Month to commemorate the Stonewall riots and honouring individuals such Marsha P. Johnson, a black transgender woman, who was a central figure in the gay liberation movement. They rioted for theirs and our rights and today the world is standing together for #blacklives
With our world now observing social distancing guidelines due to the Coronavirus pandemic, many of our pride parades and celebrations have been postponed to 2021 but that hasnβt stopped many celebrating across the internet. Thereβs something beautifully raw about Pride this year, itβs been an opportunity to remember that Pride is an act of activism, it is a fight for equality and liberation and a time to commemorate those who paved the way to for LGBT+ members to live proudly in their truths.
Isolation has brought the community closer than never before, weβve reconnected with loved ones, shared small moments and appreciated the people who make our lives as colourful as the rainbow! There are numerous amazing charities and organisations who are working around the clock to provide support to the LGBT+ community. Many of them have been hit hard by the pandemic and many have seen a real increase in the level of support they provide individuals.
