POPLAR PAINTS

POPLAR PAINTS CELEBRATES FASHION, COLOUR AND COMMUNITY!

This half term, Spotlight, Poplar HARCA and Art Clubbers CIC have teamed up with award-winning street artist, Rosie Woods, to bring ‘Poplar Paints’.

Poplar Paints is an exciting programme aimed to get young people involved in the process of creating street art in the borough. Developing the ideas the young people have explored, and guidance from the local residents and surrounding areas, Rosie will create a mural which will reflect on the vibrancy and diversity of the local community through the overarching theme of fashion and industry.

In this intimate exhibition, housed at the former Lansbury Micro Museum setup by the Victoria and Albert Museum, you will see the works of young people at Spotlight who have spent the week churning their creative energies through design and spray painting. These designs will potentially be used for a mural, here at Poplar!

We are very fortunate to have Rosie leading the vibrant 4-day workshop at Spotlight prior to this exhibition. Rosie’s works have planted all around the world from around the UK, Hong Kong, Germany, Italy, Norway and Australia. Her striking and high-spirited murals weaves in between the notion of abstraction and realism - the attempt is to communicate the tangible experiences between the soul and our physical surroundings.

The young group will be able to learn all things spray paint and beyond: from Rosie’s own experience and style; the various street art techniques; the industry, festivals and residencies; and their reflection of Poplar in their creations.

This project brings together various groups of the community from young people to local residents as well as new and existing businesses. It anticipates the arrival of Poplar Works, a new fashion workspace and training centre developed in partnership by Poplar HARCA, London College of Fashion, UAL and The Trampery.
